Why do we fulfill the norms?

A norm may be not fulfilled because it is not salient; however, not all salient norms are fulfilled. From the Evaluative Model of Normative Appeals (EMNA), we propose that every salient norm produces a normative-appraisal that, in turn, may influence on the willingness to fulfill it. This normative-appraisal is structured on three dimensions: formality, protection-scutum and protection-caligae. According to this evaluation, one of the following four basic normative-appraisals will be produced: Legitimate Law, Coercive Law, Prescription, and Folkway. We are currently testing EMNA in several countries and over different norms. We currently focused on organizational norms and, more recently, on those related to the management of pandemia.

Developing an instrument for normative management

How are the norms perceived within a specific group, institution or society?, Does such perception change across time?, Can we analyze, control or predict if the enforcement of a norm will be successful? Using the ideas described above, we are currently developing an instrument aimed at answering these answers.
